    Quick Answer

How do I look up a court case in St. Clair County?

Start with MiCOURT Case Search (micourt.courts.michigan.gov), the free statewide search for participating Michigan courts, and search by name or case number. If St. Clair County's court is not listed or nothing shows up, use the court's own website (https://www.stclaircounty.org/offices/circuit_court/) or call the clerk. Divorce, custody and felony cases are in circuit court; small claims, evictions, traffic and misdemeanors are in district court; estates and guardianships are in probate court.

Which St. Clair County court has my case?

Michigan courts split cases by type. Searching the right court saves time.

    • Circuit court: divorce, custody, support, PPOs, felonies, civil claims over $25,000
    • District court: small claims (up to $7,000), evictions, traffic, misdemeanors, civil claims up to $25,000
    • Probate court: estates, wills, guardianships and conservatorships

St. Clair County 31st Circuit Court

201 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron, MI 48060. Phone (810) 985-2031. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (clerk's counter typically closes earlier than the building). Website: https://www.stclaircounty.org/offices/circuit_court/. The McMorran Boulevard complex houses the 31st Circuit Court, St. Clair County Probate Court, and the 72nd District Court, so most St. Clair County filings happen in one building. Friend of the Court is in the same complex, which matters for divorce and custody filings involving children.

    • Divorce, custody, parenting time, and child support (Family Division)
    • Personal protection orders
    • Civil cases over $25,000
    • Name changes and adoptions
    • Appeals from the district court

St. Clair County 72nd District Court

201 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron, MI 48060. Phone (810) 985-2077. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Website: https://www.stclaircounty.org/offices/district_court/. The 72nd District Court has divisions in Port Huron, Marine City, and Marysville. File in the division that covers where the defendant lives or where the property is located — filing in the wrong division causes delays and refiling costs.

    • Small claims up to $7,000
    • Landlord-tenant and eviction cases
    • General civil claims up to $25,000
    • Misdemeanors and traffic matters
    • Land contract forfeitures

    St. Clair County Probate Court

201 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron, MI 48060. Phone (810) 985-2066. Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Website: https://www.stclaircounty.org/offices/probate/. Bring a certified copy of the death certificate and the original will (if one exists) when opening an estate. The court keeps the original will. Inventory fees are calculated after you file the estate inventory, not at filing.

    • Informal and formal probate of estates
    • Small estate affidavits and assignments
    • Letters of authority for personal representatives
    • Adult and minor guardianships and conservatorships
    • Trust supervision matters

What you can and can't see online

Online searches usually show the parties, case number, filing dates, hearings and a list of what was filed. Many courts don't post the documents themselves.

    • Juvenile, adoption, sealed and set-aside (expunged) records are never shown publicly
    • Personal details like Social Security numbers are hidden
    • An empty result doesn't always mean no case exists — the court may not be on MiCOURT

How to get copies or certified copies

Ask the clerk of the St. Clair County court that handled the case. Bring the case number and a photo ID, or request copies by mail if the court allows it. Courts charge a per-page fee, plus a certification fee for certified copies. Call ahead to confirm fees and hours.
