Deadline: 21 or 28 Days
Under MCR 2.108(A), you must file an Answer within 21 days of personal service inside Michigan, or 28 days if served by mail or outside Michigan. Count calendar days from the day after service.
If you were served with a Michigan divorce complaint, you have a strict deadline to respond. Missing it can lead to a default judgment against you.

The Michigan SCAO Answer form is MC 03. You also file a Proof of Service (MC 302) once you serve the other side.
Take your Answer to the circuit court clerk where the divorce was filed. Bring the original plus two copies and the case number. Filing fees vary by county but are typically $150–$180 unless you request a fee waiver (MC 20).
After filing, mail a copy of your Answer to the plaintiff or their attorney at the address on the complaint, then file the Proof of Service with the clerk.
The plaintiff can request a default under MCR 2.603. A default judgment can grant everything the plaintiff asked for — custody, property, and support — without your input. Setting aside a default is difficult and requires showing good cause and a meritorious defense.
