Ask for Forgiveness, Not Disputes
Sometimes the best approach isn't to dispute—it's to ask nicely. Goodwill letters acknowledge that a late payment occurred but appeal to the creditor's appreciation for loyal customers. Many creditors will remove late payments as a courtesy to customers with otherwise good histories.
Our professionally crafted goodwill letters strike the right tone—appreciative, humble, and persuasive—maximizing your chances of success.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a goodwill letter work if my account is still delinquent?
Almost never. Goodwill adjustments are a courtesy for customers who have since brought the account current and maintained a strong payment history. If the account is still past due, a debt validation letter or negotiated payment plan is usually the better tool.
Is a goodwill letter the same as a credit dispute?
No. A dispute under the FCRA (15 U.S.C. § 1681i) challenges the accuracy of an item and forces the bureau to investigate within 30 days. A goodwill letter asks a creditor to voluntarily remove an accurate item as a favor. Different laws, different response times, different odds.
Can Clear Path guarantee the negative item will be removed?
No. Federal CROA rules prohibit any company from guaranteeing removal of accurate information, and no reputable document preparer will make that promise. We prepare a well-written request; the creditor decides.
