    Quick Answer

What do I need for a Michigan credit report dispute?

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act the credit bureaus must investigate a dispute within 30 days (45 if you send new information). Pull all three reports free at AnnualCreditReport.com, dispute each inaccurate item in writing with supporting documents, and send by certified mail so you have proof of the date.

    Documents to Gather

    Filing Steps, In Order

    1. 1.Pull all three reports and compare them line by line
    2. 2.List every inaccurate item with the account number and what is wrong
    3. 3.Write a separate dispute for each item, with copies of your proof
    4. 4.Send by certified mail with return receipt to each bureau reporting the item
    5. 5.Dispute directly with the furnisher as well
    6. 6.Track the 30-day investigation deadline
    7. 7.Request an updated report and re-dispute anything that reappears

    Costs (Estimated)

No cost to dispute. Credit reports are free weekly at AnnualCreditReport.com. Certified mail is roughly $8 per letter.
