Michigan Legal Document Preparation
— Personalized, Reviewed, Flat-Fee
Professional Michigan document preparation with transparent flat fees and human review — court documents, business filings, estate plans, and more, with a clear, reviewed quote before work begins.
What Is Document Preparation?
Document preparation is a flat-fee service that turns your information into correctly completed, court-ready paperwork. A document preparer types, formats, and assembles the official forms your court or agency requires, then gives you filing instructions so you can file them yourself. It is the middle option between doing everything alone and hiring an attorney at an hourly rate.
What a document preparer does
- • Prepares the state, court, or agency forms you request
- • Completes the forms with the facts you provide
- • Assembles a complete, organized filing packet
- • Explains where to file, what to bring, and what fees to expect
- • Charges one reviewed flat fee instead of hourly billing
What a document preparer cannot do
- • Give legal advice or recommend a legal strategy
- • Tell you which option is best for your situation
- • Represent you or speak for you in court
- • Choose your forms for you or sign anything on your behalf
Clear Path Document Services is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We review every matter before quoting a price, and nothing is purchased online.
What Does It Cost to File in Michigan?
Michigan sets most court filing fees by statute, so the court's fee is the same in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Kent, Genesee, and St. Clair County. What changes locally is copy fees, e-filing charges, service of process, and publication rates. Document preparation is a separate flat fee, quoted only after we review your matter.
| Filing | Court fee (2026) | Where it is filed |
|---|---|---|
| Divorce, no minor children | $175 | Circuit court, county of residence |
| Divorce with minor children | $255 | Circuit court, family division |
| Small claims (DC 84) | $25 – $65 by claim size | District court |
| Eviction (landlord-tenant) | $45 plus service | District court |
| Small estate assignment petition (PC 556) | $25 plus inventory fee | Probate court where the person lived |
| Deed recording | $30 flat per document | Register of Deeds, county of the property |
| Michigan LLC formation | $50 state fee | LARA (Corporations Division) |
Can't afford the filing fee? Michigan courts accept Form MC 20 (Fee Waiver Request) if you receive public assistance or your income is below the guideline. Fees are informational and set by the courts, not by us.
